"Taikyoku" (太極): This term can mean "grand ultimate" or "great ultimate" and is often associated with fundamental or basic. In the context of martial arts, it implies a starting point or basic form.
"Shodan" (初段)(also known as Kihon Kata): It is a fundamental kata in Shotokan Karate. It's often the first kata learned by beginners and consists of 20 basic moves. The kata focuses on two primary techniques: Gedan Barai (downward block) and Oi Tsuki (stepping punch). All movements are performed in the Zenkutsu Dachi (front stance).
"Shodan" means "beginning level" or "first rank."
Nidan (二段): This term translates to "second rank" or "second degree." It represents the second level of black belt in martial arts. The kanji 二 (ni) means "two," and 段 (dan) means "grade" or "level."
Sandan (三段): This translates to "third rank" or "third degree." It represents the third level of the black belt. The kanji 三 (san) means "three," and 段 (dan) means "grade" or "level."
